Its dominant presence adorns the top of the hill above the old town center and completes the city skyline. The Gothic Church of St. Nicholas, affectionately called &#8220;Kapitelj&#8221; by the locals, is one of the central symbols of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitdolenjska.eu\/location\/novo-mesto\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Novo mesto<\/a>. It is home to the famous Tintoretto painting of St. Nicholas, houses a library within its building, and is surrounded by the Kapiteljski Gardens, enclosed by medieval defensive walls.
