Association of Gottscheer natives
The Gottscheer Altsiedler Verein (Society of Gottscheer Settlers) was established in 1992. The society brings together mostly Gottscheers and their descendants from Mošnice and the surrounding areas, who did not emigrate in 1941.
The Cultural Center of the Gottscheer Settlers Society, with its museum, presents a display of historical facts about the former inhabitants of the Kočevje region, who lived there for more than 600 years. We are talking about a German-speaking enclave covering 800 km², the settlement of Germanic farmers in the 14th century, their life and work, and their departure during World War II.
The Cultural Center also offers German language lessons and occasionally Kočevian language courses, as well as various activities for the youth group. The youth choir preserves the tradition of Kočevian songs.
The museum is open to visitors only by prior arrangement. Guided tours are available, and upon arrival, visitors (at the group’s request) can enjoy a welcome drink, which may be honey brandy or a typical Kočevian potica (pobolica).
