Auersperg Iron Foundry in Dvor

A unique insight into industrial heritage

In Dvor, you can find the renovated complex of the Auersperg Ironworks, an important part of Slovenia’s industrial heritage. The ironworks operated from 1795 to 1891 and were owned by the Czech princes Auersperg. In 1822, it was transformed by Ignaz Vitus Engelbert Pantz, who developed it into the largest iron foundry south of the Alps. They produced both decorative and practical items, such as candlesticks, kitchenware, grave crosses, as well as larger constructions like fountains and bridges.

Today, the area has been renovated and includes an exhibition space in the Lončarija building, featuring an interactive presentation of the Natura 2000 area, as well as the renovated Trajberk building, which offers visitors an information center, a multimedia hall, a souvenir shop, and a café.

Guided tours of the complex are available by prior arrangement.

Visit Dvor, discover the rich history of ironworking, and enjoy the beautiful nature of Žužemberk, full of opportunities for hiking, cycling, and exploring the Suha krajina region.
