Zaplaz Trails

On the Zaplaz hill above Čatež near Trebnje, close to the pilgrimage center known as the “Dolenjska Brezje,” you’ll be guided on your journey of discovery by the dwarf Čatež and the forest witch Cuprn’ca. The Zaplaz Trails are a forest educational path interwoven with legends and the names of Fran Levstik and Simon Ašič.

You can park your car in the designated parking area right next to the pilgrimage church. From there, you can choose between a shorter 1-kilometer route or a longer 3-kilometer trail. Along the way, you’ll encounter a variety of trees and plants, forest clearings, ponds, and the Marian Spring, which locals regard as miraculous. The most adventurous can continue to the highest peak of the Trebnje municipality – Bajturn (609 m).

The Zaplaz Trails are marked by their symbol, the “holy tree” – the common holly. Despite their popularity, they remain a place of peace, learning, and mindfulness, where visitors can discover forest etiquette and true harmony with nature.
