Archaeological Trail Vinji Vrh

The circular trail is 8 kilometers long, and with a moderate pace, it takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to cover, with an elevation gain of 230 meters. The trail leads you from Šmarješke Toplice towards the apartment settlement in Dobrava and further through the village of Mlada Vina, where archaeologists have discovered around 50 tumuli. The trail then leads you above the village of Orešje to the Church of St. Joseph on Veliki Vinji vrh (392m). From the top, one can enjoy one of the most beautiful views in this part of Slovenia. Along the course of the Krka River, the eye rests on the largest island on the Krka River, Tržič, near Kronovo. On the way back, we descend via a steep path past the lime tree towards Bela Cerkev, and then follow the instructions of trail number 3 return to Šmarješke Toplice. Alternatively, you can continue the trail to Mali Vinji Vrh with the Church of St. John.
