Pleterje Monastery and the open-air museum

In a hidden valley beneath the Gorjanci mountains stands the Pleterje Charterhouse, the only active charterhouse in the Slavic world. The Carthusians are a community of hermits, where monks dedicate themselves to the solitary and silent path of following Christ. As a result, most of the monastery is in cloistered, inaccessible to the public. The old Gothic church from 1406 is open to visitors, where a multimedia presentation about the life of the monks and the cultural and historical significance of the charterhouse can be seen.

The Open-Air Museum Pleterje, which represents an old traditional farmstead from 1833, allows visitors to explore the cradle of the Slovenian nation. The museum is open every day of the year by prior arrangement.

In the on-site shop, you can purchase monastic products, and by prior arrangement, you can also taste Pleterje wines. The tasting includes 7 wine samples, ranging from Cviček, mass wine, Blue Frankish, predicate wines, to sparkling wine.
