Šance and the defence walls

“At Šance” is what the people of Novo mesto call the area at the very top of the old town centre. Here, by the gardens of the Cathedral, lies the largest section of the remaining Novo mesto defence walls, which protected the town from the Turkish invasions for a few centuries. By the walls “at Šance” runs a walking path which offers great views and leads along the length of the preserved walls to the former defence tower.
