Kapitelj viewing platform

Climb the 126 steps to the 53-meter-high bell tower of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. Its dominant presence adorns the top of the hill above the old town center and completes the city skyline. The Gothic Church of St. Nicholas, affectionately called “Kapitelj” by the locals, is one of the central symbols of Novo mesto. It is home to the famous Tintoretto painting of St. Nicholas, houses a library within its building, and is surrounded by the Kapiteljski Gardens, enclosed by medieval defensive walls. A true feast for the eyes!

The four bells at the top of the viewing platform speak of a rich heritage, while a special feature is the new oak staircase with three levels and a clock mechanism located in the lower part of the stairs. From the 24-meter-high viewpoint, there is an exceptional view of the Gorjanci mountains with Trdinov vrh, the town center, and the famous Trška gora.

You can access the viewing platform from the northern side of the bell tower, separately from the church area.
